Hey people,
What's the general consensus here on the freezing of coffee? I have a counter culture subscription with two bags arriving at once. I probably finish one every 10-13 days and wonder if I should freeze the other for the time being. If so, whats the method you recommend. Alternatively, should I just leave it in the one way bag for potentially two weeks? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When I freeze beans I use the Ball Canning Jars (have to make sure their the canning ones as they have the two piece sealed lid), think mine are pint size can't remember. But I use those and place beans in a zip lock bag and squeeze out air then place that in the jar. Works great, I've tried multiple ways of freezing including just the bag their shipped in, that's the only way freezing works for me. I take one out at a time to use and when low take out another to defrost over night, the jars themselves are great but the zip lock bag helps a lot as each time I take some beans I squeeze the air out to seal and put back in the jar.
Sounds like a pain lol, but it's not, and works. Walmart or most any store carries the Ball Canning Jars. Good choice on Counter Culture, good beans right there.

Here is what works for me - I do this to every bag I buy as I am the only coffee drinker and drink a cup a day, two if I have the time to enjoy a second cup.
I have pint Ball jars and a food saver vacuum sealer. The food savers are great for so many things so my wife and I have loved it! I separate the bag into three portions. Two to freeze and one that goes into a jar by my grinder. I vacuum seal the jars using the appropriate attachment on the food saver.
I just finished up a pound of coffee from Verve this way and it tasted fresh the entire 2.5-3 weeks that it took to finish it. The best telltale sign for me was the bloom. It looked like it was fresh out of the roaster every day. I know there is lots of info out there on freezing but I feel that the best way to experiment is try it yourself!
I personally like splitting the bags up as I only have a few days of coffee out at a time. Obviously, do what works for you based n your consumption!
Thanks for the suggestion, I picked up four 1/2 pint jars for dirt cheap on e-bay, and got a FreshSaver for half price along with the widemouth jar attachment (with free shipping).
For $30ish I'm set to keep my coffee fresh for weeks!
You might need a couple more jars. Figure on about 100 grams of beans for each 8 oz jar - it's actually slightly less. That leaves about 50 grams unaccounted for (454g/lb).

Not all jars are freezer safe, so check before using. For example the Ball Canning jars I use are "freezer safe", they have other ones that aren't recommended for the freezer and most other mason jars are not either unless specified (found that out the hard way lol). The canning ones have a two piece lid that seals air tight and box says freezer safe.

I called their Hotline (who knew?) and the main concern with 'non-freezer safe' is the shoulders of the jar and expansion when freezing. As coffee beans aren't going to have significant expansion, and as long as I don't over pack the jar, they said I'm golden.
I got all stirred up on this a few weeks ago here and ended up trying it again. I had tried it years ago in its various forms. This time i used same fresh beans from Klatch in airtight container. Im not impressed but if its someones thing then thats ok by me.Live and let live.
