So, I'm kinda getting to that point where I don't care about what coffee I'm using, whole bean or plain folgers. I just want my caffeine. And I thought I found the right grind on my grinder, but the coffee still seems not up to par...I believe this to be because I don't use a lot of coffee. I use 45 grams of coffee for 750 ML of water which I believe is a 16:1 brew ratio. I thought about bumping this ratio up, but not to much because I use this ratio with an advanced technique for my Technivorm. I figured, it would be easier to use more water and obviously more coffee...Then just trying to use more coffee for the same amount of water. I mainly want a stronger ratio for stronger tasting coffee and more caffeine in my cup. Now, honestly I am using dark roast folgers. It's fine for me. Any advice on what I should do?

Well, if you bump up both the coffee and the water by the same ratio, then you'll still be at thesMe extraction ratio, no? If you want it stronger, then you need a higher grounds:water ratio. I can't give you much advice here though, as I haven't made drip in years. I do strictly espresso and presses. In my medium Espro Press, I've used about 45g:600ml water (slightly shy of doubling the amounts I use in my small press - 22-35g:300ml water). However, I just got the medium press and have only used it 4 times. So, if I were to calculate my stronger extractions up to your volume, I'd be using about 87g, at a 4 minute steep time...not sure if that translates directly to drip though.

You should try a more fresh coffee. Also how are you storing the Folgers? I have found in the past if ground coffee isn't stored properly the taste diminishes fast! I drink Espresso, press and pour over. With pour over 18:1 coffee:water ratio gives me a pretty strong cup. Your currently using 16:1 so the ratio shouldn't be the issue. Another thing to check out would be grind. I think the plain Folgers might be to course for your Tecnivorm. I suggest trying some new more fresh whole bean coffee from a local roaster. I'd also look into a grinder. The difference will be night and day!

I agree that a fresh grind will likely give you more flavor. Folgers flavor...that's up to you I guess. You could try another brand and see if there is improvement, as coffee has a very different flavor depending on bean origin and roasting methods.
More caffeine is going to be extracted the longer hot water is in contact with the beans. Robusta beans contain more caffeine typically, so that's another thing to consider. Personally I don't drink for the caffeine so much.
