Subject: ECM Sorrentogroup 2 Loud  BUZZING from one group

Well I have a Michelangelo ECM Sorrento group 2 machine.  We are having a Loud buzzing noise from the left group. (still works fine, just is extremely loud)

The machine has been cleaned with new gaskets and screens.
The boiler and pump pressure is normal, (in the green on the gauge)
I believe the BUZZING is from the Lucifer solenoid, I unplugged and switched the wire harness from the Working group, and the BUZZING followed the harness, confirming the solenoid is not the problem.
I also swapped the touchpad harness from the brain box to see if that would help. No luck.

I'm afraid the brainbox is sending an incorrect signal to the main red wire that connects to the solenoid.

This is my third espresso machine that ive had problems with, so im hoping you guys can help...    thanks a lot !!!!

I think you went close to the issue source.
Could be the internal part of the 3 way valve.

Is the three way valve different than the solenoid?

If not, the the solenoid will buzz if hooked up, and if the wiring harness is swapped with the working solenoid,
The working solenoid will then buzz.   The harness with the red wire that goes to the circuit board will buzz
With either solenoid hooked to it.

The not buzzing harness with work just fine on either solenoid.

Hope I'm not too confusing,  thanks

Can anyone help me out before I spend $$$$ on a repair man?     Does anyone know what voltage the signal wire going from the brain box to the solenoid should be at?

Thanks!!!

it should be the normal tension supplied for your home, i guess 110 VAC.
Did you recently replaced the solenoid coil??
Try to check if there is any false contact in the solenoid harness ( are only simple crimped connector or it is a black squared connector?) or in the brain board connector where ending the wires from the solenoids.
If wires are ok and all connection firmly done, maybe a failed relay ( could be a fail of power supply to the relay or the relay itself) on the board could be another suspect.
Before any check up don't forget to disconnect the machine by the electric source.

That is a 220 v machine. The signal voltage should be the same as the rating printed on the coil.

Tighten the small nut securing the offending solenoid coil to its cartridge. Because the coil is an electromagnet being fed by alternating current, the magnetism pulses at a high frequency and will cause vibration if it is not held securely in place. If after tightening it continues to buzz you must replace the coil component. Good luck

ive taken apart and cleaned  both portafilters units and both solenoids.     I have checked and rechecked all electrical connections for loose wires, corrosion, or burnt spots on the motherboard.

The one group still buzzes very loud, and doesn't seem to push enough water through the head when there is a shot.

But remember, if I swap the electrical harnesses for the solenoids, the other solenoid starts buzzing while in use, and the original buzzing group Stops buzzing, working fine.

Cant figure this out.

If your buzzing solenoid  trouble moves to the other group when you swap control cables- you have either a bad ribbon cable going from the control board to the group solenoid or a bad control board. If the solenoid is bad, buzzing will not move from solenoid--- with the swapped wiring and control side. Sounds like a power leak or low power from control board.

Thank you for the response. I have tried swapping wires with no luck.
Just making sure there wasn't any tricks before investing in a control board.

Are there any other options besides spending $850 on a new board?
