Anyone from Vancouver will know that the Downtown Eastside might be the least expected place to find a cafe where people care about creating beautiful coffee experiences. But we're coming to celebrate a new day (a sunrise) at the Radio Station Cafe - our friend, Peter, is now at the helm, pulling JJBean, and transforming a small corner of the neighborhood.

The Sunrise Jam is on the horizon.
Tuesday, 14 Aug 7-10pm Radio Station Cafe 101 East Hastings corner of Hastings and Columbia 1 blk west of Main and Hastings
We're basically using this evening as an excuse for friends to gather, for new friends to be made and for all to engage their palates and imaginations with some distinctive coffees and a new sense of space at the Radio Station Cafe.
The four featured roasters will each provide a coffee to cup and represent their produce through discussion on sourcing, roasting and cupping. How do we share not only the information, but the enthusiasm for coffee that is constantly growing in us?
The main event of the evening will give you a chance to flex your barista muscle: the Best Shot Throwdown. Each roaster will also bring their house espresso and for a toonie you can step up and pull three sets of shots. Serve up your best to two judges and at the end of each round (each coffee), the 'Best Shot' will be announced and the winner will collect the kitty. The winner of each round will square off for the 'Best Shot of the Night' honors.
This will 1) give you the chance to play with coffees you might not be familiar with and 2) give judges and spectators a chance to 'taste' different baristas, everything else being equal.
Admission is free. Bring along some snacks and soft or hard drinks to share. Feel free to post or email me with any questions.
