Subject: Basic blend to start?

I roasted my first two batches of beans today in a popcorn pumper.  They were a sumatra sent as a bonus via another CG member with my new grinder.  It was fun, and I'll be excited to try them.

What I'd really like to try to roast is some sort of "basic" blend.  Something not too complicated that I can play with to start, and will taste decent in my morning latte.  All the beans listed at Sweet Maria's are kind of daunting to someone who has no idea what tastes like what.  I know they do great explanations of flavor, but that doesn't help me - I have no idea what flavors blend well together.  I know I like code brown from coffeeemergency - that's as far as I've gotten in ordering online.  There are others on my list to try, but I have no idea if I'll like them or not as yet.  I know I don't like the overoasted blends of Allan Bros. Coffee here locally.  I've come to realize I'm not all that fond of Starbucks, either. :)

So, any basic blend recipes out there?  Suitable for roasting in a popcorn popper?  I'm probably going to order from Sweet Maria's, just because it's familiar.

Before I found out I could get Red Line green (aka Green Line), I worked up a Three Continents Blend from Sweet Maria's single origins:
2 parts Brazil Fazenda Ipanema Dulce
1 part Sumatra Lintong Dry process
1 part Ethiopian Harrar Horse

And before I got the Harrar, I was cheating and blending in some Costco med-dark roast Ethiopian instead.  I roasted the single origins separately--Vienna for the Sumatra, Full City for the Brazil and City+ for the Harrar. I gave it 3 days rest, and it turned out very well for shots and macchiati, but does not cut sharply through milk in large drinks like lattes or Seattle-style cappas. I brought some to my friend's house in Queens for her to try on her Krups steam toy; she does not drink shots because the machine doesn't do straight espresso well.  For long milk drinks, I'd increase the amount of Sumatra and decrease the Brazil, and roast the Brazil at Full City+, the Sumatra at Vienna-to-French, and maybe substitute Yirgacheffe for the Harrar (but still keep the roast light to preserve the acidity).

Thanks!  That's exactly the type of thing I was looking for. :)

What's this red line/green line?  If I could find a good green blend to buy and roast, that would even be simpler. :)

You can also try 2 parts brazillian santos, 1 part guatemalian of your choice, and 1 part sumatran mandelhing.

A varriation on tis blend which I find to be very tasteful is 3 parts santos, 2 parts guatemalian, and 1 part sumatran mandelhing.  Sorry for the bad spelling ( too much blood in the caffine stream ;-)  All of these coffees can be found here.   http://www.ccmcoffee.com/

I'm currently playing with this:

3 pts Brazilian Santos
2 pts Sumatra Lintong
1 pt Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
1 pt Monsooned Malabar

and a dash of quality robusta (like 1/2 part or smtg)...

Still working with the proportions, though. But it's kinda tasty on the 3rd day after roasting.

Pre-blended, roast a bit to second crack (halfway, I guess..).
