I wasn't sure 'cuz I'd never heard of it before. The retailer was a dept store, not a coffee shop. The Best Before End date, even being shipped over from Italy, was still months in the future. I was thinking, "How far out do they date these things from the roaster??" The big, beat up, 1 kilo bag would become a lot of compost bin fertilizer if all I discovered was oily carbon mini chunks passing as roasted beans! Oh well, here goes nothing.....
Wow! The bag's aroma was very complex! Hard for me to identify at first, since I usually buy single origin beans & I'm pretty new to this whole espresso gig. (Being a 30 yr moka pot & drip brew veteran doesn't really prepare you for true espresso scents & tastes....) I had to grind & brew some before I could accurately identify what I was smelling. The strongest notes from the bag were something I could actually, for the first time ever, describe as "winey." When I pulled my first double, I immediately thought, also for the first time ever, "chocolatey!" I've finally experienced sensations I've only read about before. Oh, and the crema from this stuff.... It's like mocha mousse! Unbelievable!
If you happen across a bag of this stuff, buy it! You won't be disappointed!
