One roaster I've had good luck with who is relatively local (Mid-Atlantic) is Shenandoah Joe coffee. http://www.shenandoahjoe.com
Every time I've ordered the have roasted the order early in the morning and shipped it the same day. Since he is in the region I usually have it the next day. From the notes on the site, you might look at the dark horse espresso. I haven't tried that one so I have no first had experience. I like Dave's blend as my morning pour over.

I just ordered from Deep Cello and the "Nostromo" is incredible. $3.95 shipping. The best I've had in many years. You will love it! Justin sent me a long email answering a few questions....GREAT SERVICE TOO.

I've tried all of Deep Cello's roasts and like their Nostromo the best. Can't wait to get my new machine and get some more Nostromo to break-in the QM Andreja. Their Nostromo is 12.95 for 12oz, 16.95 for 1 lb and 61.00 for 5 lbs not counting shipping. But my last order from them was for two 12oz bags and shipping was 3.95 from Oregon to North Carolina can't beat that. It would cost me more than that to drive from my home up to Durham to Counter Culture and get some of their coffee, gas is already 3.55 a gal here

The Third Wave swung the pendulum so far to the side of coffee "massivity" while the current fascination with fruit and finesse has pulled a lot of the good coffee roasters in the opposite direction.
My own feeling about Nostromo's rave reviews is that it proves the viability of its classic style and how good and balanced a darker roast can be when its so skillfully selected, blended and treated. It seems that lots of people taste it and their immediate reactions are "At last! That's the taste I've been trying to find." It's almost as if for a few years there you couldn't find a really good steak.

Since joining this forum, I have gotten great advice on everything related to coffee, so, I recently placed orders with a few of the roasters recommended. I read in this thread about the sample deal at Deep Cello and decided to call.
I just got off the phone with Kelly at Deep Cello; extremely helpful and informative. I really enjoyed the conversation and, of course, 1/2 lb. of coffee for $5, shipping included, how could I resist. So, I am looking forward to some new coffee to try.

I received 12oz of Counter Culture decaf Rustico, a recommendation by drgary, and man was that great! It's all but gone already. It's the best tasting coffee I have had - and it's decaf. I love it but it's a little pricey when ordered as one 12 oz. bag.
I am waiting for RedBird, a recommendation from Jason and others, decaf and regular. I had a great conversation with Jeff at Redbird and he said that if I want, he would be happy to roast decaf and regular beans together and sell as a 5lb. bag...so, if I like it as much as I think I will, I will be placing another order soon.
The roasters I have spoken with have been really helpful - and now I can see why perople on this forum have recommended trying new coffees. I confessed that I liked *$ - these coffees are in another world!

If you liked their Rustico decaf you should also try their La Forza and if you can afford it you should order two bags. My last order was for two bags and it ran me a little over 30.00.
