Which espresso blends/beans do you think offers the best value for the quality?

I have tried out Red Bird and Redline.  Both are exceptional value.  I got the 5 lb bag for Red Bird and with Redline, I ordered 4 1lb bags and got free shipping.  I noticed many places have switched to smaller 12 oz bags but without lowering their price much.  Red Bird and Metropolis both still sell coffee in 1lb bags.

I have noticed that also.  I don't believe they lower the price at all just the amount you get for the same money.  If you are in the EU shipping is what is probably killing you. What can you get and not pay shipping?  (i.e. local sourced)

I live in upstate New York, the closes places to get beans are probably Cafe Grumpy, Stumptown and few other micro-roasters in Manhattan.  They are pretty expensive though.  Grumpy sells 12 oz for $17, that's more expensive than Red Bird + shipping (about $18 total, for 1 lb vs 12 oz).  This is not to mention I have to drive about 1 hr to get there.  Gas is pretty expensive these days.  I like Red Bird's free shipping for 5lb and Metropolis' free shipping for $50+ orders.

Any other good roasters with price similar to Red bird/Metropolis?

You could order other offerings from Metropolis and Redbird. (Assuming you haven't) Redbird's espresso blend definitely isn't the only thing they offer that can be used for espresso.

The last time I ordered from Deep Cello the shipping was 3.95 for a 1 lb bag. From them you can get 12oz or upgrade to a 16oz bag for 4.00 dollars more which for me was 16.95 for their Nostromo which is good if you like dark roast. It usually takes 3 to 4 days to get from Portland, Ore to Wilmington, NC. Also their Black Tie is good. They also have sample bags of 6oz size and the last time I got that was just under 7.00

For me it is definitely Middle Fork Roasters out of Seattle. I buy directly from the plant and my favorites are their Full City Espresso and their Middle Fork blend, both of which I brew as espresso shots. Recently a guest brewed some of the Full City Espresso using my drip pot, and it was quite good.

I do not know what they charge for shipping, but their prices for the coffee are very reasonable.

Another EXCELLENT local roaster is Velton's, in Everett Washington. I pay $5 for them to ship 2 one pound packages, and the one pound packages are $15 each. I have not tasted better coffee than Velton's, including Stumptown, Coava, Intelligentsia or Blue Bottle.

Paradise Roasters from Minn is flat rate 3 dollar shipping, Counter Culture from NC is 5 dollar flat rate.

Roaste.com offers free shipping on orders over 39 dollars from individual roasters, and 19 dollars to pay for all your shipping "prime" for a 6 month period on their site, so you could buy a 12 oz each week for 6 months and only pay 19 dollars for shipping. You have to select it at check out.
