Subject: Chromatic Coffee fantastic customer service!

So, I ordered a couple pounds of espresso from Chromatic last weekend and it's now Friday and still no beans at my door!  I'm pretty annoyed, in part because I typically get coffee at my house 2-3 days post-roast from every other vendor up and down the West Coast, but more so, because I got an email saying it was shipped on the 10th (I ordered on the 9th), but then the tracking info says it was shipped on the 12th, and it's not due to arrive until the 18th.  I've emailed them to voice my concerns (still waiting for a reply), and pretty much said (very subtly) they need to include USPS Priority Mail as a shipping option, because FedEx doesn't cut the mustard.

Has anyone else has a problem getting beans from them in a timely fashion?

I'm wondering if that's why they haven't made the HB "List of Favorites".  So, question for JBL, is that the reason they haven't made "the list"?

I just got a reply from Patrick at Chromatic, and Wow! He's gone far above and beyond what I would consider adequate to make up for the mistake. In addition to offering me a huge discount and free shipping on my next order, he's also adding back the USPS Priority Mail shipping option. They had removed it for a couple of reasons...which I'm not going to explain here.

Awesome service! I can't wait to taste their espresso beans!

Wouldn't it be a good idea to rename the thread to reflect the whole experience with Chromatic Coffee?  Since you now seem satisfied with the service and new shipping options, the title gives a negative impression, especially for someone doing a quick search on this roaster.  My two cents.

Jumping in - Chromatic's beans taste good.  :-)

Actually, I just finished a bag of the El Salvador for drip and a bag of Gamut Espresso, and both were great.  Once I got the Gamut dialed in on my grinder, the shots were very well balanced and smooth.  I'm looking forward to picking up a couple more bags this week.

I'm not sure what the story is/was with Chromatic/Barefoot, but it definitely reminded me of the Barefoot of years ago (I've had issues with the Barefoot beans I've bought more recently that cause me to not enjoy their roasts too much any more).

Anyways, just one person's opinion.

First off...I "spoke" wrong, it was FedEx Home...but that's besides the point, as my beans didn't arrive until yesterday.

So far, so good. I've got the grind close, but maybe a touch too coarse still at the current dose of 18g. I still need to get the shot just right, then decide what dose and pull temp I like.

Glad to hear that you were able to get your order.  Chromatic is one of my favorite roasters in the bay area.  I've never had beans shipped though.  I always pick them up in person.

Can you tell me your dose and temp for Gamut?
