OK, now I am just beginning to get the idea....
This is supposed to be smooth and creamy and chocolaty:
5 parts Brasil Natural (CCMCoffee 4 Parts Uganda Bugisu (SweetMaria's) 3 parts Monsooned Malabar (Metalina Coffee) 2 parts Sulawesi Toroja Grade 1 (Sweet Maria's)
PRE-blended and roasted about a minute into second crack (for a pound this roast was stretched to 23 minutes altogether) In my setup that produced a deep brown roast and after 2 days some of the beans have sparse oil spotting.
Result: DEFINATELY very smooth and creamy on the second full day. I would say velvety body and an almost-sweet finish.
NOT really bold and not chocolaty at all (to my taste)
My shots were ristretto and poured all-crema. As you can see the crema was dense and lasting......
Dude - you are more than welcome to come by anytime and play with the beans and machines over here. We can make shots until we're bouncing off the walls.
(3 weeks??? Jeez - I don't think I could do that!! Is it doctor's orders?)
I roast this blend to about 40 seconds into second crack.
Post roast, I add Esco Farms Ugandan Robusta, the equivalent of 15% of the total batch. The robusta seems to roast much faster than the arabica in the blend, so I roast this with the heat gun.

Jon, you're tormenting me! :)
There's no way for me to start roasting beans right now; besides not having enough time right now, I would only manage to find space indoors to roast (for 6 months or so at least) -- and indoor roasting does not sound like something that one should do.

I'm sorry - no pain was intended by my photo's. You are of course also welcome to visit me in Houston to share espresso shots in my messy little apartment :-))
I roast outside by the kitchen window (the wires are run through the window). There's no way you could do that with a popcorn popper? No local roasterie for you there? Shoot! I feel bad about that.

See, I'm not the only one. We're going to have a restaining order put on you: if you come within 100yds of your machine with a camera, you'll be sentenced to 500hrs community service at your local Folgers factory. :-O
No, i have been coffeeless because I bought my BBQ roaster and some good beans, got my roaster half assembled, and have not been able to touch it since because I've only had 2 days off in the last month. I figured I'd roast my own, but no go yet. :-(
Generous offer to invite the espresso starved over, but you realize you would be missing both the drip grate and your camera. :-)
