For the Atlanta GeekFest, I made two espresso blends.

The first, which several tried was:

4 Brazil Cerrado Patrocino Natural
3 Sulawest Toraja
2 Indian Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold
1 Nicaragua Organic/Fair Trade Segovia.

The second, which I left for Bob:

4 Brazil Cerrado Patrocino Natural
3 Colombian Huila Mercedes Supremo
2 Indian Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold
1 Nicaragua Organic/Fair Trade Segovia

Just wanted to post these for future reference.

Jeremy

That first blend was terrific. To what degree was each of the four varietals roasted ?

Been French Pressing the second. It's been delicious too.

I've got Cerrado and Segovia. I'll need to substitute for the other two.

Thanks Bob.  For me, the blends are ALL about the 20% Indian Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold.  This bean gives me the particular spice flavor I have been looking for in Espresso.  It reminds me of a particular espresso I was fond of while in college.  Straight, it makes an incredible drip, and a wildly spicy espresso.  At up to 30% of an espresso blend, it adds some intrigue and lingering "bakery spice" taste.

Thanks to you too, Dave.

I roasted each bean seperately, to about City+ or Full City.  My goal was to aim for the line seperating City+ and Full City, if such a line can be drawn.

To me, the Sulawesi was a tad underroasted in blend 1, as was the Colombian in blend 2.  Both contribute a slight grassy taste or aroma to their respective blends.  If the Sulawesi is a touch darker, it starts to go chocolate.  That's what I like.  As for the Colombian, that was the first time I had roasted it.  I'm not satisfied with it yet.  I'll have to keep trying different roast degrees.

Let me know if y'all play around with this.  I'm going to try a few different things in place of the Nic.

Sorry Jason.  We will hopefully be getting together in January 2005.  Check back in the East forum.  Hope to see you next time.

Bob,

That sounds interesting.  My roasts of "The Gold" don't turn out so well.  I haven't hit the profile I like yet (and haven't even tried in a while).  If you find a profile that works for this blend, please let me know, and I will try to duplicate it.

I have a lb of Indian Mysore Peaberry that I haven't tried yet.  Tom over at SM says that the peaberry is sweeter than the nuggets.  I do love a sweet shot from time to time, so this will be the next bean I try.

I'll let you know about those peaberries.
