If you like dark roast, there is http://www.caffecalabria.com/site/

on 30th and University. Quintisential SoCal caffe. Coffee is spotty, don't go during rush times, service and quality suffer.

Also check out Cafe Vero, a gelato and coffee house at washington and India street. This is a gritty local cafe that makes a good capp/latte if you get one of the girls. Most the guys are slackers. The roast is made for them by the above roaster.

P.S. if you like real mexian food, go up San Diego St and stop at Olinda's. The tortillas are just like the ones my grandmother made. I LIKE visiting my mother in law, her condo is right smack between Vero and Olindas....

Diedrich has something called Black Tiger Espresso.  It is one of my favorite.  Their shop is nice too.  It is walking distance from my house. They are all over the country, but many people will never set foot in one, as there just arent that many of them.

Haven't been there in awhile, but there is a small chain called Pannikin and I remember good things.  They have a few locations - Click Here (yp.yahoo.com)

There is another place in La Costa called La Costa Coffee Roasters.  They are a regular coffee shop who roasts their own on the premises - Click Here (yp.yahoo.com)

I know chargerswin had a couple of places he likes.  Do a search for his name and you will find his picks.  You might be able to email him directly too.

Talk to chuck (great guy) his website is www.birdrockcoffeeroasters.com let him know Joe Pace recommended you to him. If your thinking of staying in San Diego for a while let me know. joe@internet-realty.com I can Help you with that also. Have fun, Joe
