Hehehe, I was traveling to NM to visit my folks, and knowing they don't drink coffee (they have a half used jar of Nescafé that's about 10 years old for when company comes over. ~shudder~) I decided to bring my trusty moka pot to satisfy my java-joneses.
Well, going out there, it was packed in my suitcase, so no big deal. But coming back, I packed it in my carry on. So expertly wrapped in a plastic bag. Well... it must have looked really funky on the Xray machine, because next thing I know the xray lady is hollering to another security agent, and I'm being escorted to a search station! She asked if there was anything in my bag I wished to inform them about, and when I replied "uh....no, not that I know of." she had me open it, and proceeded to extract my moka pot.
When I saw what was causing the commotion I started laughing, and after explaining what it was, how it works, why I had it, what the wires were for (no, just kidding) her response was " oh, that's so cute" OIE!!! Thanks to the detour I had to sprint to make my plane. But in the end, it was a good chuckle.
So I was just curious if anyone else had funny stories about their coffee/espresso "paraphenallia"? I can imagine what a tamper or portafilter (especially a pressurized one, with it's springs and such) would do at an airport security checkpoint. lol
