I'm back BITC--S! I've been out in the Gulf Islands for a week sailing all over in a Catalina 34. I passed the PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator's Card, which authorizes me to enter the adult stores with the painted over windows ;)) and the CYA Basic Crew License thingamajig. Basically, I can operate any motorboat up to a certain size and horsepower (I think) and a sailboat under 12m or maybe more. My torrefaction roasted blend I made seems to be good, but very earthy. It is medium sweet with hints of dirt (in a bad way), South American-like brightness, rather like concord grapes and lemon juice, and anise. It is a rather nice straight shot blend which I will keep on my list, but really flourishes in milk. It is so very smooth in a 2oz ristretto + 1oz milk. This blend and my only other blend, the 50% Peru, 33% Guatemala, 17% Ethiopian Harar, I prefer over Hines and Black Cat in milk. They shine through, but don't take over your tongue. They were both bright and earthy, a little too earthy if you ask me. This bring me to another point. I just steamed, dare I say, perfect microfoam with a 3.5oz steam boiler. I stayed uniformly silky for over 5 minutes in the pitcher (time from steaming to pouring some, to drinking the espresso drink, to finishing the steamed milk left in the pitcher). The best part was that I used no thermometer. I did it the true barista way: with my left hand. I started pouring into my 2oz triple ristretto. It was perfect! The rosetta was forming the first leaf after the base and !!OVERFLOW!! Damn. There wenth that opportunity. Just a note, this blend gives me severe jet and side channelling without absolutely perfect distribution. I am getting a real tamper ASAP. Mark my word.

Technically, I'm pretty sure this should have been posted in the 'You know you're a senior member when...' thread.

I was hesitant to post this here since my camera's batteries were dead. All I'm saying is that there will be espresso porn when I get that tamper or get some Hines.

THANKS!!  I'll be giving notice to my current employers in the morning.
Two weeks from tomorrow I will be working for OCEANEERING.
From what I can tell they are a great group of people, and I'm very excited about the opportunity.

I'm back on some home roasted finally!

Looks as though you'll be working on ROVs, is that right? Sounds way cool.
