Are you sure? I'm fairly certain running water through the group also fills the boiler on Miss Silvia. If it doesn't I got lucky 'cuz that's what I did for the 3&1/2 years I had Missy! But I didn't do a whole lot of steaming the first couple years with Missy so may be wrong. And after really getting into cappuccinos as my second cup of the day have since upgraded to HX rotary Bricoletta.

I have heard this as well, but I really don't think it's true.
Water doesn't escape the boiler until there is pressure behind it, or the entire boiler would just drain constantly, and water would never have time to heat.
Run some water through the boiler until it's dripping through the shower screen.
Then open the steam valve and hit the boiler switch again. How long before water escapes? Was there enough time to give you any reason to believe that there was an air pocket in the boiler?

Well, after steaming I've always turned on the brew switch to run water thru the screen...there has always been a certain lag time of maybe up to 5 seconds before the water comes out. Perhaps when you run the steamer the water flow is diverted from the path it takes out thru the brew head or something. Also, I wouldn't think steaming one pitcher of milk would totally deplete the boiler, so who knows.
