Help me out here people, my wife and I just had a baby, sales tax just went up in Illinois and my wife is still a twice a day venti soy carmel machiato drinker.  She swears that the drinks I make for her with my Nespresso machine just don 't taste the same.  I've become very close with our local baristas.  I know exactly how to make her coffee.  I have the Starbucks syrup and  the Starbucks caramel.  It has to be the Nesspresso blend that I'm using.

Does anybody know which Nespresso pod tastes the most like the espresso Starbucks uses in their drinks?   Somebody out there has to have the answer for me.  I need  to ween my wife off of her $9-a-day habit.

In serious need of help!

I would try the black capsule "Ristretto". I believe Starbucks espresso to have strong roasted flavors, the Ristretto should get you close. I also believe that many of the flavored coffee drinks use 2 or 3 shots of espresso per drink, therefore you will need to use 2 or 3 capsules. Nespresso: 1 capsule = 1 shot.

I am not familiar with the volume of a Starbucks' espresso but I figure a 1oz "Ristretto" will put you in the ballpark.

Other tweaks:

1) Run 5oz of water through the system to preheat it before running your shots. This gives better flavor and crema.

2) Experiment with the shot volume. 3/4oz per shot to 1 1/2oz per shot is the range to consider.

Other consideration: are you using the same soy milk?

Good luck and congratulations.

An aside to Mark: what happened to the KitchenAid article?
