that I got from Jon.
been using it pretty much exclusively over the past few weeks, and really loving it. getting rich, syrupy pours, and FINALLY getting the taste similar to that of my favorite cafe (Grumpy.) They pull all their shots triple ristretto, and now I see that it's really impossible for me to get similar pours to theirs using double baskets. Chewy, nutty, thick, oily, crisp shots. Yum!!

Nice! Which basket it is? I have an 18gram ridgless "synesso" style basket and a 21gram straight sided basket.
The 18gram basket is a little easier and more forgiving, but the 21gram basket really produces the super chocolatey, syrupy shots that the 18gram just doesn't seem to duplicate..

I also started using a triple ridgless basket (which also came from a fellow CG, hee) recently, and it does seem to be more forgiving than the doubles. And I can really use that extra leeway!

i actually got both! the triple (21g) is my favorite by far...the 18g was good too, but not nearly as syrupy and chewy...i agree totally with your assessment.
makes me wonder if I'll ever use my double basket again!

What triple basket will fit my Gaggia porta filter that I've cut the bottom out of. It's cut all the way to the side wall, used a hole saw then chucked in my lathe.
Uh, to be a little more specific, standard baskets that fit e61 PF will fit. I have this one: http://www.espressoparts.com/product/MZ_108/MZ_108__Triple_Portafilter_Basket.html and this one: http://www.espressoparts.com/product/W10813/W10813__Giant_18_Gram_Triple_Ridgeless_Portafilter_Basket_Synesso_Basket.html
Both should fit your bottomless gaggia PF no problem.
