Just wanted to share some interesting test results.
I brought a basic machine into work and was able to pump out a latte every 5min. I usually had about 5 regulars during lunchtime of course in the kitchen..just had them swing 2 dollars.
Anyway..everyone loved the stuff...basic blends from home ...
Then i got a nespresso machine..and put instructions out ..no steamer on the unit just a milk frother for them.
Had them swing 2 dollars as well.... i used ristretto capsules.
Turns out...nobody could tell the difference between superior quality drinks which a lot of people were buying at outside
shops for $5-15 per drink.
Starbucks switched to Auto machines which suck..but they are still moving along well.
I think the Auto. idea is the way to go in the western world.
Just pump them out..and be on your way people.
;)
what do you guys think?
ps. the two espresso shops near us have people behind the counter who are clueless. I've tried there stuff and it's probably worse if not the same as the nespresso stuff using a manual frother for milk instead of the steamer "which they don't know how to use properly".
I fed my dogs a NY steak once. Then I gave them chuck. It was amazing, they liked both! SO now, I feed the dogs the chuck and I eat the strip, and they don't even know. Just because the dogs are happy with chuck doesn't mean that's all I want to buy anymore. If I'm coming into your shop and seeing a super-auto, I'm prolly not even gonna slow down. If you're in it for the money, get a cheapo nespresso and churn out cheapo sugar drinksand make a mint. If you're in it for the coffee, call me, and tell me where the shop is opening...

Don't think it'll fly these days, Prav. You only have to go a couple of weeks back, when we all witnessed what happened to Starbucks shops. Going auto and super-auto and competing with likes of discounted coffee drinks from McCaffees of the world was one of the main contributors to their decision to close down some 600 of them, and decomission close to 1000 machines. I wouldn't be surprised if they start a new line of boutique coffee shops alongside their standard line, where the emphasis is put (again) to the quality of the bean, barista and coffee prep. Of course this will most definitely mean going back to semi-autos.
