I'm sure this has happened to others, but have you ever had a shot pull completly different from others and it turns out to be a great shot. I've done this on several occations. But there is one shot I am a little stumpped about. I have ran shots before that were ground way to course so it ends up filling your double espresso cup within 5-10 seconds. Initial thought my guess would of been sour or nasty. I try it anyways, and had great shots come out really sweet and pleasent. Even the crema was really good which doesn't seem normal. Problem is, I can't seem to replicate them. Has anyone else experienced this?

I suppose sour is if the water is to cold running through the coffee. I usually base my shots off the 20-25 sec. rule. Does anyone play with shots based on 5-10 seconds or other times that isn't as as typical?

I had an espresso fitting your description at the WBC last year. The shot took around 15 seconds, was about as pale as I am and it was also rather long. I tasted it out of politeness. Surprisingly it tasted like orange juice and really hit the spot. I never got to know which coffee it was but I understood it was from Colombia.
