Hello all,
I am currently studying at Newcastle University and am doing a dissertation survey on the UK coffee culture - considering how it has evolved and how it has impacted purchasing habits. Please could you spare five minutes to complete my survey - the link is attached below:
Your involvement in the study is completely voluntary and you may choose to withdraw at any stage. The data collected will be used only for the purpose of this research and your involvement will be kept confidential in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

There are many flaws in your survey. This is an international site, most of our members are not in the UK. I am not but I was forced to pick a location in the UK so your data will be skewed as there is no other or non UK choice yet I HAD to answer that question.
Your survey is HEAVILY skewed to the social implications, not once did you ask the question if we drink coffee.... BECAUSE WE LIKE THE TASTE!!!!! I could not care a RATS BEHIND about the "culture", I drink coffee, mostly espresso, because I like it. Nearly EVERY coffee shop serves dreck so I prefer to make it myself as I am able to get great QUALITY.

You ask when we most commonly consume coffee, then force us to choose between weekday and weekend. If I drink coffee 5-6 days a week, with no distinction between weekdays and weekends, I don't know how to answer your question.
On one of the questions, I had to choose between "roast and ground coffee" and "fresh coffee". Sorry, but the two can be the same thing. Not sure what you're asking here.
I don't live in U.K., either. The survey was too much fun so I just made up the location. Will that be a problem?

Also it seems like you kinda missed the basics, for example, you ask if we own a coffee machine... What is a coffee machine exactly, is it anything that can prepare coffee, is it an autodrip machine or any mechanical device for makin coffee... See, Ive got a stovetop mocha pot, a drip cone-thingy and a french press... all of them perfectly capable to make me good coffee, yet none of them is in terms a machine. I am at the moment looking into buying an espressomachine (which is partly why im on this forum) however, even though its a machine and it makes coffee im uncertain that it counts... And you certainly should read something about quantitative research methods... First off you ask, what you want to know the answer of... thats no good, a respondant will give you the answer that he will think of himself. Lets take one of your assumptions: Some people drink coffee to showcase a certain trend or lifestyle. If you want to know the answer to that question, you mustnt ask if they: ...consume coffee because it helps me look on trend If that was the case it is a huge confession to do to oneself and to an unkown interviewer who hasnt earned the respondant's trust. You would probably have better luck asking something along the lines: ...consume coffee as a part of my lifestyle or identity. Then youd have to interpertate (spelling?) the facts but that is a general issue in human based research. Also you have like three (maybe two) ways of looking at people who drink coffee: Buisness people and trendy people/television characters... thats kinda narrowminded, isnt it?
Now I would like to point you in a general direction as to literature on quantitative research, however all I got on the subject is in danish by danish authors... so no luck there. Sorry. -Sune
