Subject: Entrepreneur Looking to Simplify Ordering Process with Mobile App

Hello all,

This past year I have been conceptualizing and designing a mobile application for the specialty coffee industry. I was hoping that I could get some feedback on my project to better help me with determining the need of this product.

Before I give you a description of the application, I'll start off by telling you what sparked the idea for me. I have always been a huge coffee drinker, but never really had much knowledge on the topic. So, when it came to trying to build and customize my coffee at coffee shops I struggled. I often found the menu to be kind of confusing and not really much help. So I set out to build an application to help myself and others with this problem.

The mobile application simplifies the ordering process for consumers. It helps the user build custom coffee drinks specifically by what the coffee shops ingredients are (syrup selection, types of milk, roasts, etc.) Users can also save drinks to a library, or decide to share drinks with others. I have also been working on a feature that would eliminate the need for the user to wait in line to place the order.

What do you think of my project? Also, do you see value in the solutions I am working to provide?

Thanks for your feedback!!!

I personally would want to know what grinder and espresso machine they have.  That means more to me than what syrup they carry because if they have top notch stuff they often have the best trained baristas. (not always but be it is place to start)

Buying advice: GRINDER GRINDER GRINDER. Don't cheap out on the grinder.

Doesn't sound like an app that would be useful to me. It's very rare that I actually go out for coffee, as I find most of what is available undrinkable. I suspect that most of the other people who frequent this board would agree with me...just read some of the threads about difficulty finding a decent drink in a restaurant.  My guess is a place full of people who take their coffee rather seriously isn't the right place to ask you question. I don't mean to shoo you away, just trying to say I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get much help with this app here.

What Wayne and Ron said . . . .

Also, I'm pretty sure it already exists.

I guess I'm kind of old school, but I prefer to just go talk to the baristas to see what's up.  So, I don't know that the app would be for me necessarily.  I also think there is value in talking to baristas that you can't get from an app, like what roast is pulling really well or poorly that day.
The only part of the app that I would say is a "bad" idea is the ordering ahead function.  Espresso drinks are meant to be consumed quickly after they are made, otherwise the milk will separate and the espresso will lose some of its character.  Allowing people to order ahead will lead to bad consumer habits and bad coffee.  If people are always drinking bad coffee (especially from places known to be good shops) they're never going to learn what good coffee is.
