Sorry Randy and anyone else that took that wrong, it was poorly expressed.  i by no means intended that "fruit cakes" thing to be derogatory but I term of endearment. The folks i work with are thinking creatively all the time and analyze the seemingly most mundane props, displays and sets.  I have grown in many ways from my friends at work and frankly have infused their culture will with a little nerd boy. I am about the hippest middle aged nerd I know but I am still never going to be seen wearing skinny jeans, plad shirt and floppy sock hat. :) Not that there is anything wrong with that but you can only take a nerd so far.

It does look sharp and the black one would be my choice as well but is a fine machine in all respects not just looks.

I can't believe I actually entertained taking out my Milwaukee Sawz-all to make room for a Compak K-10 Fresh - in the "wine" (aka espresso) cubby right off our formal dining room.  Thanks, John! or should I direct that at Randy? Man...my wife would go ballistic...but I can't seem to get it out of my head.  Hmmn...hey, here's an idea.  We need to rip out those stupid diagonal wine racks and put real cabinets there with glass doors anyways.  Maybe I could just raise the whole thing a few inches at the same time?  Oooh, this is starting to sound like a real plan.

yes, that's how it goes, Brandon?  Machine envy, grinder envy, upgraditis...whatever oyu want to call it.  It's like the "mother-in-law sign" (comes early, stays late).

I would not turn down a free speedster - it is cool looking, but I really think my ultimate machine is a Londinium 1. I really like the idea that I can get GS/3 quality tastes for less than half the cost. The lever is simple to use and easy to own and maintain.  (very important to me) People are selling Gs/3s after getting the londinium and using them side by side.  It is in the price range that I can aspire to own (one day) - new even, makes the choice a no brainer for me.  I can't even entertain the thought of a Synesso.  I can't see myself ever rich enough to own an espresso machine that cost more than my car I am driving right now.  That is like imagining myself driving a car that costs as much as a house, even though people do.

Adam Sandler's song "I have a POS car" is my theme song :)  There 4 cars in the driveway (two kids driving) and their all junk but one. I buy 5K -8K dollar used sedans for cash put 100K on them and sell them again for what ever they will bring. Gotta keep the wife in slightly nicer car but she has still never owned a brand new car and wont as long as I am alive.  I keep the platinum level AAA membership so I can get my junk towed home when needed the extra cash stays in the bank.

Holy cr@p! I just realized there's one side of the counter at my espresso bar where it's not height restricted for 12" depth (counter edge back to front of cabinets).  Looks like I'm on for a mammoth titan after all!  Of course, there's still the cash/wife factor to deal with (same issue really).

John,

When does your project start?  Have you decided on the machine yet?  When can we all come over - lol?

Dude anytime your in the hood.

We are actually going through the painful part of picking out colors for the counter, back splash walls etc. Thankfully the floor is old school poured terrazzo so that color is set in stone (nark, nark,) She will have to go from there on the rest of the colors. No new cupboards just new, glass hardware and refinish. I will have to replace all molding and crown molding, tile, paint and plumbing myself. She is has already hit me with the "We have to wait until after the Holidays" so there is that to. I figure if we have every detail decided by then we can get started in January. I am going to have to change the range (going from electric to gas)  and the dishwasher.  I hope she will let me keep the hood we have because stainless is stainless, the cupboards were built around it and the dumb thing will last forever.
