Hello all,

I am a first time user with CofeeGeek and hope you can help me. I am very interested in the coffee bar business and would like to hear your commnets on the best equipment out there.

Since I'm financing the business on my own, I am looking for some introductory and affordable equipment that can get the work done to start.

Specifically,

  1. Espresso Machine (brands and models)
  2. Coffee Maker
  3. Coffee Grinder
  4. Coffee Raoster

Thanks a lot!

Definitely check out some used/reconditioned restaurant supply stores in your area.  It would cut down costs a lot if you could find a used machine at least.  I've heard a lot of good things about Nuova Simonelli commercial machines, but I'm not too sure what else is out there.  For an espresso grinder, check out this link.  I've been looking at the Mazzer Mini, Innova Flat Burr, and Rancilio Rocky myself (although I don't think I can afford the Mazzer Mini).  I don't know too much about coffee brewers, but you definitely want a thermal airpot instead of having the coffee on a burner.

Hope this helps,

Becky

Becky, thank you for the feedback. I'll do some research on used ones.

Service is really important in the FS business.  You want to have somebody that will respond when something breaks and everything mechanical breaks.  Also check out the reps of the businesses.  If you hook up with a bottom feeder and they are out there in any business-you will spend years regretting the choice.  There are people who know who is reputable and who is not.  So check around before getting in bed with a supplier.

what part of the world are you located in-I know a bit about the CHi/Milwaukee area.  Am in the med sales bit so not into making money off coffee-just like the fun of the bean.
