Thanks again. I use a Nikon D2H--a fantastically intuitive device (a whole separate and equally geeky conversation). Shot those images with a 50mm 1:1.8 D.
Okay okay okay... a few questions. In case the elektra wasn't good enough, you've also got a novecento (or so I believe it to be...)
The second one isn't so much a question, but a comment... the cuisinart; the poor guy doesn't even stand a chance sitting next to the first two. It's like sending whoopi goldberg on after billy crystal at the oscars!!

This pic was taken about a month after I got my rig which was a little over a year ago. It looks pretty much the same except I've upgraded the cups.

G'day Ron,
Yep ! Just a "K" type thermocouple attached to the boiler top just near the left hand thermostat. Plugs into matching digital thermometer.
I had a good look at Randy G's experimenting on taste verses pulling the shot at various boiler temps on the Silvia. After reading it and trying differing temps I now use 212 deg F (100 degC) as the temp to hit the brew button.
This happens around 33-35 seconds (on my machine) after the lower thermostat clicks the element on (light on - after steam wand bleed) ....
I can now also bleed steam wand to get dry steam and then wait for max steaming temp when using large jug ..when making 4 lattes/cappas at once. The steam temp gets up to 300 deg F (150deg C) before element clicks off.
When steaming large amounts of milk (over 1 minute steaming) the boiler temps settles on about 250 deg F (120 deg C) for the duration.
It was easy to install and is easily removed ...I can truely temp surf instead of time surf. I have another port in the thermometer to which I'm connecting another thermocouple to finally see brew temp at the portafilter verses boiler temp. Hoping to get around 195 deg F (90 deg C) at basket consistantly but need to know what temp boiler is at for 195 at basket.
