I use jars from IKEA, but they are generic glass jars with a seal on top that supposidly keeps things fresh.  It opens via a metal locking thing.  Nothing complicated and your run-of-the-mill glass jars that open/close.

Wondering if there is something better, like zip lock bags or even just paper bags folded.

That's a good option - I use them too.  If I buy roasted beans I place a ziplock baggie inside that jar and the beans in the bag.  For home roasted I use the foil-backed ziplock bags with the one-way valve from SweetMarias.

I use a smaller jar like that for my blends.  I mix enough beans to keep a 2-day supply in my jar.  I think they may be called mason jars but I'm not sure.

YUP, thats the name.  SImple glass jars that have a top that can be locked into place via a simple metal clip-like device.  Hard to explain, I suppose I should include a picture but not tonight.

I've enjoyed your photography!  Keep it up...

And the important part of those jars is the rubber gasket
(engineer in me will not rest)

More pictures to come, just not now cause its late.  I take thousands of digital pictures a year (Im addicted) so I'll definetly take a lot of miss silvia and anything espresso related.

I'll continue to keep my beans in glass jars.  THey look good and are very functional.  I like it when guests come over and see two large jars filled with espresso roast (nice and dark, usually two different kinds - each jar fits a pound of whole bean just perfectly) adn then a smaller jar with some already ground (french press) grounds.  I'm even anal enough to put some masking tape on the top of the jars to label the bean (cause I will forget).  I even go so far to write "brasil" instead of "brazil" on some brazilian blends. LOL thats cause I keep it real!  Nooo, I like near a very brazilian neighborhood and thats how they spell brazil (with an "s").  Okay, sleep time for me, its 1:15 in the big apple.

I use these every day, they look like a Ball/Globe Mason jar & hold a HWP 100 gram (green weight) roast perfectly! {:-).
I have 5 that I picked up at a Dollar store & that's all they had.

Jon or Chan, are they the Ball 60000 half-pint regular can or freeze mason jars?, they look to be. The 1st link that came up I saw them quickly here: http://www.goodmans.net/get_list_531.htm
The pint size are bulbous.
