So I got the upgrade fever and moved from a Gaggia Classic/MDF to a Livia 90/Mazzer Mini

While I was very pleased with the quality of the shots I was pulling with my Gaggia, I have definitely reached a new level with my Livia and I've only had it 3 days!!  Also my Mini arrives tomorrow, so these shots were pulled with beans ground using my MDF.. can't wait to see how things improved with the Mini.

Also, I've only been a "coffee geek" for a little under a year and am still learning, so any feedback on these videos will be greatly appreciated.

btw, the videos are around 8mb, but hopefully worth the wait..

Thanks for the feedback.  The first pull was 23 seconds, the second was 25 seconds.  This is due to me not being able to fine tune the grind as much as I'd like with the MDF.  But both shots tasted great if that means anything (it does to me!!)

I guess this is also due to the fact that with the Gaggia I prefered the taste of 23 second shots to the taste of 25 + second shots which began to get slightly bitter in my opinion, so i've gotten used to pulling 23 second shots.  But once I get my Mini, I am going to start aiming for the 25-30 second range according to the Schomer rule...

I have the Livia 90 too, and I also think the shot is coming out too quickly.  I am only used to the single spout, so it maybe that is throwing me off. You might try the single spout, unless there is a reason that you need 2 separate 1 ounce shots. The the pour stream should look more like syrup or honey, and I dont think yours did.  I would suggest retiming the shots, and dont be afraid to go too fine or tamp too hard, even if nothing comes out and you need to start over. Sometimes what has helped me the most is going to both extremes (whatever you are dialing in), and that helps you find the best setting somewhere in-between.

Thanks for the advice..  I got my Mazzer Mini now and i have already started doing what you suggested  and the results are definitely getting better.. honestly I think the Mini is the most amazing thing ever!!  I should have upgraded to that earlier in my opinion, but now I appreciate it even more..  I will post a new movie soon..
