Subject: Should I replace "Livia" with "Francis"?

I am still waiting for the arrival of Livia and already my wife is showing signs of jealousy.  I am being told that "she costs too much" and "I don't want her around the house".   She doesn't even want me to undress (unpack) her on arrival.  Now, I know with the Illy promotion and then another 25% off the promo price of 725, I got a great deal.  I'm anxious to explore the wonderful world of espressos, caffe cremes and lattes, especially after eating and drinking my way through Florence over Thanksgiving week.

I need some solid strategies to win over my lovely bride and accept a new "mistress" in the house.  Any help appreciated!!

Also, remind her that your machine is cheaper and safer than that Harley you wanted.

Yep, that "hot wand" might begin to make you jealous...

Once your wife sees that she can make tea or cocoa anytime.  Or I should say, you can make her tea or cocoa anytime.

I could not disagree more.  I'm a fan of real plants (you know, the ones that don't die within the week) and do not like jewellery.  If someone ever bought me something from Tiffany's I would sell it and make myself a nice hemp necklace.  Now that Harley on the other hand...

...and on that note, I need a coffee.

Tell her it'll be a LOT CHEAPER than going out to coffee shops.  Don't tell her about your future upgrades, cups, home roaster, tamper, etc.

First - go fish your goolies out of your wife's purse - they belong to you.

Then sit her down and tell her things are going to start changing around the house.  You've got a new hobby - and it's not football or golf, or hanging out at seedy bars full of disreputable women.  No sir -- it's the bean baby, and you're bringing a new friend into the home to share it with.

She's got two choices --- they both involve learning to pour latte art and mastering a massage technique.  Her only options involve questions of lace or silk.

Now go grab an espresso and make with the smoochy talk.

If that fails just start pleading and begging.  That's usually what I do in the end.

Well, I had friends over to polish off some X-mas leftovers and we started doing cappas.  My son has taken great interest in the Livia and started pulling shots and steaming milk and actually did a great job.  For simplicity, we left the POD setup on and used the ESE pods that came with the order from Illy.  The shots of espresso looked and tasted pretty good.  My daughters and several guests commented that the cappas were fine - they really liked the taste.  My wife has not been converted yet, although she had a cappa, also.  I am taking solace in the fact that she in the past has stated that she didn't want the following:

cordless phone, cellular phone, satellite TV, SUV, minivan, a dog, a cat, 3 children, etc.

She wouldn't be without any of these now so I will use the 30 day trial period to have her try to warm up to "Livia".  I have to say that the machine has performed admirably so far and I certainly notice the improvement in taste over what we have been drinking.  I also know from reading various CG posts that by experimenting with different bean blends, the tastes will get even better over the ESE pods we are using now.
