I have been contemplating what to do with the doser.  I really do not like dosers. I gutted the doser chamber and had a canning funnel cut to fit.  I have a little elevator platform upon which I set the filter basket and funnel.  I grind right into the basket, give it a little pre tamp with the plastic tamper which came with the Silvia, use the caffeguy inspired purger, sweep the remaing grounds into the basket,  pre-tamp again, then raise the basket and funnel out of the machine.  I then seperate the funnel from the basket and tamp with my "real" tamper.
