Subject: Rocky for Espresso Only?

I've been changing my Rocky back and forth between expresso, drip, and press grind settings.   Someone recently told me I shouldn't keep switching it around like this, saying I'd ruin the burrs if I continued that.  They said I should use the Rocky for espresso only and get another grinder for drip and press.

I hate to pull the whirly out of the closet, as I'm not ready to buy another grinder.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
 Andrew

I think you received some mis-guided advice.  Although some say the Rocky isn't great for drip, I've used it from 4 to 40 for over a year and it still grinds great for espresso.  I do clean often (every 2 weeks), but I would recommend frequent cleaning regardless of grind setting.

I believe it's pretty well a given that the Rocky is a better grinder than my MDF, and I do exactly that a couple of times a day, from Espresso, to drip, to Espresso, to F/P, back to Espresso, etc. And I haven't had an issue.

So, if the Gaggia lives through it, I highly the doubt Rocky will suffer.
