Thanks for posting this! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who looked at the worm gear and said, "There has to be a way to make that flip back for large grind changes..."

Looking at pics online it would seem that the M7KR & MXKR use the same worm adjuster as the stepless M4/5. I'm not sure if the mount is the same but if anyone tries this mod on one of those models please post something here & let us know if it works.

I was looking into doing this today. How did you guys remove the dial so that you had access to the screws holding the worm in place? Doesn't look like I can fit a screwdriver in there without first removing the dial. Do both left and right knobs just slip off with enough force from a small flathead screwdriver?

Both knobs will pop off but it helps to give them a little help with a small screwdriver the first time. If you have trouble getting behind them just remove the hopper (one screw) & the toothed ring (3 phillips screws) to gain better access.

My MXKR should be here Friday and my intention is to do this mod before I even plug it in if looks like it will work. I'll have to get a feel for the size before I go get the spring. I'll let you know how it works.

It works. All Macaps have the same worm drive. I tried it, but I'd rather keep an espresso grinder as an espresso grinder. Easier to stay consistent to the fractional second.

I use mine for Espresso 98% of the time also. I came up with the mod because its such a royal PITA to remove the upper burr assy for cleaning in stock configuration. Being able to spin the entire assy off in a few seconds makes living with the Stepless Macap much more enjoyable.
I wasn't able to find any t/s locally that were light enough. Anything I could buy 1 of was made for automotive use & way too stiff. I'm still looking for something cheap I could rob one off of but for now I'm ok with the current set up.
