I've actually been planning on getting one of the Traveler II's for my upcoming 2+ week road trip (which will include some camping too). Lately I've been grinding in advance for short trips in which I'm flying somewhere (usually take my Capresso Infinity if I'm driving). I'd like to have some kind of compact grinder though to fit in a checked bag.
BTW, espressoparts.com appears to be out of stock on the large size, or at least that's what I'm guessing...I did send them an email about it but there is no way to add to cart on that espressoparts.com link from above. May end up having to buy the large one somewhere else.

I have thought about this myself. I am thinking about getting one of those compact brass turkish grinders that the nomadic bedouins carry about with them. Preferably a Zassenhaus.

Espressoparts.com has the large white Traveler 2 grinder for $21.95. It's not listed on their site and the black one shows as being sold out but if you call they do have the white one at the aforementioned price. I just got mine in today.

Remember to roast some small beans for your trip or that grinder will make you crazy. If you use small beans I think you will like the grinder.

I am wondering if they redesigned the burr set such that the gap at the inlet to the auger is wider. I bought mine at REI. I may go there to look at the current machine. If they changed it, I may upgrade and sell my old one at a good price.

This morning I wanted to try it out for real so I ground 2 tablespoons of Brazil Formosa for a 6.5oz cup of pourover drip coffee. The resulting coffee tasted great. That's all I want it for is drip...I may just play around with it for espresso some day but I don't really need it for espresso. When I did grind some beans at the finest setting the grounds looked nice and consistent to my naked eye so it would not surprise me to find that this grinder could make acceptable espresso. Don't take that as gold though as I'm just purely speculating.
It does take a while to grind but probably not moreso than an average handgrinder although maybe a little longer due to a smaller burrset. I found at the end of the grinding session that the most comfortable way to do it was to sit down, hold onto the hand grip and then brace the lower fatter part where the grounds bin is between my legs...sort of a cross between hand mill and knee mill.
I definitely would not want to be grinding for a whole pot of coffee with this!!
Now lets talk about the freshness of the roast - even more important. There is no free lunch though. Good quality greens, fresh roast, quality grinder, fresh grind. Leave out any one of these and you're back to truck stop coffee.
