Subject: Rossi RR45 burr reinstall?

I got a good deal on an RR45 but it was so dirty that I could hardly get a bean down the throat.

It had a thick gummy tarry goo that nothing I had would dissolve. Took me literally 4 hours to clean.

Anyway I removed the upper burr from the carrier. Is there any kind of alignment procedure for reinstalling them? There seems to be a fair amount of play in the 3 screws.

Also any recommendations on a solvent for that tarry goo?

Thanks

for a solvent, get some purocaf or urnex from your local coffee shop.  Mix that up with some really hot water and let it sit.  Once the screws are tightened, they still move?  The only real procedure is lining up the holes, nothing secret about it.  Unless the wrong burrs were installed on the grinder before you bought it.

The screws tighten the burrs down ok.

Its just that because the holes in the burr are slightly larger than the screws, there is some slop in where the burr can be on the carrier when you tighten the screws down. Not much maybe 1mm or less.

Seems like the burrs not being exactly centered to each other would affect grind consistency.

But maybe it's just my AR machinist's background showing through. I left the dial indicator in the toolbox and just eyeballed it.
