I'm looking at buying a used Mazzer.  In pictures of the one I'm looking at, the adjustment collar doesn't have holes for the arm.  It's just solid all the way through.  When did they start using collar arms so I have an idea of how old this one is?  Thanks

Mine is similar to that.. it is an astoria with no holes in the collar,
the body is also in two pieces rather than one smooth piece like the new majors, and there is no timer, but a i/o flip switch.

i do not know how old my major is, except that since i've reconditioned it it runs great.. the collar i have weighs significantly more than the new ones FWIW.. both pieces weigh about 5 lbs. together, as opposed to 1 or 2.

I picked up a SJ a few months ago that I'm pretty sure was made March 2002.
Take the base plate off, and look for a circle molded into the grinder frame real close to the single screw that holds the base on.  I'd assume Mazzer marks the manufacturing month/year with the year in the center of the circle, and the month being the number around the edge.
If the seller would be so kind to take the base plate off, I'm sure they could figure it out.
Good luck.
