I'd love a Mazzer Mini but my wife will only give me a few more inches of counterspace for my coffee gear. I need a recommendation for a versatile and well-built small grinder.... preferably one that will do a great job on both coarse ("drip") and espresso grinds (espresso's the main priority). I'd like a machine with adjustability (esp. at the fine end) but not one that will take forever to get from one grind to the other. I'm not looking for cheap... just small. Thanks, Blair

Hi Blair. I used a Macap M4 stepped, doserless without the hopper and just ground per shot. In this configuration it is 7"W x 11.5" T x 8.5" D. It's easy to switch between espresso and French press due to the stepped collar. Very quiet, tidy set-up, I must say. Looks sterling on the counter-top, too!
I just recently "upgraded" to the dosered, stepless version of the same grinder. More convenient but definitely messier and uses more coffee (due to spilling it everywhere!)

I have always loved the grind quality of conical burrs, and they are very well done in grinders with the lux burr sets. And the grinders usually have a very small footprint.
If you have nothing against basic but inexpensive, here's one I would definitely consider if I needed another espresso grinder , the Mini Pro2 from vanelli's :
The Innova I-mini , I-2 conical, Lux Grinder, and the Le'lit PL53 all have the same identical burr set, and are also very nice grinders for a little bit more money but with added features.

Another brand to consider is Anfim. Due to compact size and rumored strong performance I came very close to purchasing the Anfim Best. You can purchase from visionespresso.com for $395 (I have no experience with them). Anfim makes the Moka grinder for Pasquini which is actually a rebadged Haus model. See http://www.anfim.net/en/prodotti_semi.html for comparison.
So for $395 Anfim Best seems to be a pretty good deal. It's a very compact, well built unit with strong reviews. Doser is supposed to be great and grind adjustment is supposed to be smaller than most stepped models. Check out reviews on this site. I have no personal experience but it seems to be a great fit for minimal counter space. You can find a few videos on youtube for relative size comparison.
