I haven't read about many problems with the M4s & that would be a very good price for a stepless M4 w/doser. The chrome models list for well over $600 now.

That seems like a great price - the auction asks for a buy it now or best price offer.

Too bad I want a doserless.

Is this machine OK for someone who changes coffees fairly frequently?

Can you put single doses into the hopper and get good results?

Many thanks

Bought the doser in order to keep the kitchen clean.  Took me a couple of days to find a good grind setting for espresso, but now feel like I am there.  I plan on using this grinder solely for espresso.  The stepless is not as easy as the stepped to transition between different coffee types, but is easier to get the ideal espresso grind.  Will be using a cheaper grinder for regular coffee (more forgiving).  Used best offer of $515 and then used a 10% ebay coupon to get the great deal.  The seller was tremendous and I received the unit within 36 hours!  He has also been a great resource for any questions since the purchase.  Very happy.

This: "Easy Mod for Stepless Macap M4/Upgraded w/return spring 2/26/08"  will greatly simplify cleaning & adjusting the stepless Macap.

Interesting.  I will need to break out my tools.  After flipping back the worm hinge, how many screws are needed to remove the top of the grinder?

None, thats the beauty of the mod. Leave the hopper in place & just turn the entire upper assy clockwise until it unscrews completely. This will expose the lower burr & you just sit the upper assy upsidedown on the counter to clean the upper burr. When done spin it back on counter clockwise until you see only 5-6 threads showing then turn slowly until the burrs just kiss & back off to your preferred setting. Lock the worm drive back into the teeth & you're done.

I will need to check it out.  The burrs touching is your zero point sound?
