Subject: Is Compak K3 an upgrade from a Gaggia MDF?

I'm would like to upgrade my MDF and I'd like to switch to a non-doser stepless ginder.  Does anyone have experience with this type of upgrade or a similar one?  There is a lot of info about the K3 and other comparable grinders to the K3, but very little about the MDF other than it's an "ok" grinder.

I'm wondering about grind quality and in-the-cup differences rather than clumping and doser differences, however any thoughts are appreciated.

The Compak K3 is certainly an upgrade from the Gaggia MDF.  No question.

For one, stepless adjustment.  Some would argue that two grinders, identical in every way, except one stepped and the other stepless could be an upgrade.  Stepless Grinders are essential for espresso.  I can only think of one stepped grinder that receives praise for being an outstanding espresso grinder, and that is the Anfim Super Camaino... WAY out of the MDFs league.

Grind quality will be better, and the in-the-cup difference will also improve.  Flavors that were not there before should now be able to be detected, and more importantly, enjoyed.

Personally, im a Doser guy, so Id be looking at the K3 Elite.. But the Touch is the same grinder, just doserless.

Thanks for the feedback.  One question though: are your answers based on experience with the MDF or a similar grinder (similar burr size, geometry and speed) and/or the K3?  Sorry if that sounds rude - I can see why the K3 should be better, but I'm not always convinced that things are better because they are larger or more expensive, has anyone tried both, or a similar combination?  Objective data?  If you've tried them and you can tell a difference with taste, that is objective to me....I trust your taste buds.
