My maestro grinder seems to have stopped grinding course. I put it on a course setting now, and it still grinds fine. .. does it just need to be recalibrated? Why would the calibration be off, does that happen over time? It's around 4 years old or so. I had to replace the main drive gear last year. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Jessie,

The upper black burr adjustment coarse setting ring is probably broken or detached from the white calibration ring. One of the 3 lugs on the upper outer ring burr carrier may be broken off too/also.

P.S. I tried approx 10 minutes or so ago to help you out offline via Yahoo Messenger also.

The assembly should sit/look perfectly level, not tilted.

The calibration screw is not installed here, & the calibration is set to midpoint as you can see the light through the farthest left hole (of two) for the calibration screw.

this seems to be the weak link for the baratza grinders...i had problems with my Virtouso last week, and found this to be held together with a screw ( calibration screw) and then locked into 3 small tabs.

Baratza was excellent and they are sending me a new gear assembly which includes this piece. The gears are fine, the tabs were broken.
