yikes!!!!!! Glad you got it sorted

You know those people that want to tell you how to raise your kids but have none of their own? That is how i feel when someone with a kitchen appliance tells me how the merits or dis-merits of my machine or how to use it.

So it wasn't a "normal" change after all. Glad you found the reason and can repair it.

I checked the conical burr. It wiggles. There is slight play when I pull it up/down and if I turn it left/right I hear clear hit metal to metal. Do you think that's the problem?

I fix & repair (refurbishing) these Baratza grinders for a living, see my Profile occupation listing. As I was saying, excessive axial play (conical burr shimming preload) will negatively effect grind consistency & could cause accelerated wear on the aluminum driven gear.Metal to metal sound/feel is normal, the motors harnened drive shaft is meshing & in contact with the helical cut aluminum gear.

If you've contacted Baratza for service under your 6 month refurb warranty, Pierce or Doug will fix you up with a Preciso adjustment ring kit. {;-)
