Subject: Vario-W vs. Vario Question

I just ordered a Vario-W from Whole Latte Love.

However, they sent a Vario.

Now, I have to wait for a UPS label and they will not release the W, until the return package with the Vario is confirmed by UPS.
It will only be a few days or a week extra wait.

On the other hand, I weigh my beans using my current set up, and its not a major hassle, plus I would save a few $'s.

Should I hold out for the W?
Is there no difference in grind quality between the Vario and the Vario-W?
Any other considerations?

Thanks!

Why not use the Vario while waiting for it? Or were you not allowed to use if you want to return?

The Vario and Vario-W are essentially the same grinders, with the same burrs, motor, deisgn etc. The only extra is the weighing system on the W. So their grind qualities are the same.

I dont think I can use the errantly shipped Vario. However, I dont understand why Whole Latte Love didn't automatically overnight the grinder I actually ordered! I view there handling of this as a customer service failure.

They have wasted your time  and questioned your character so i would just take the credit and then take my money somewhere else. Document it all very well so you have something for credit card company, BBB and most importantly your state's attorney general office for consumer affairs. They have been rude not criminal but it never hurts to be prepared and organized incase it turns ugly.

Take the credit? Wouldn't that still be giving them business?

No I mean a full refund not and exchange. I suppose you could see that as a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face but that is really not how i would feel about it. I just would not do business with them and their attitude about the customer. Not mean spirited at all I just think you can probably buy it from some other vendor and I be grinding away, return that one for full credit and all before your credit card bill is due, with a little luck :)

I really like my regular vario and don't think i will upgrade to the W but then again I have never used a W.

A lot of companies in general (i.e not just espresso vendors) won't cross ship without a credit authorization to cover them in case something happens -- especially for something with a Vario W's price tag.

Well, they have my credit card info and I'd be happy to provide authorization for a new charge, while the transfer occurs....I was never offered the option.

It appears you're on the fence, so I'll just ask: do you use the hopper much? Or mostly single-dose? What you said about weighing beans makes me think the latter. If so, I'd seriously consider keeping the plain old Vario (blessing in disguise?). I exclusively single-dose and found the Esatto wasn't my style (sold it after a month). Weight-based grinding seems to me to be a better fit with hopper-friendly types who go through a lot of coffee.

Yeah, mostly single dose.
