Yeah, mostly single dose.
I am on the fence and might just ask for a refund of the difference.

BTW, Im in Balto too.....have you been to LaMill yet?

Yup. How about you? I was literally their first customer on opening day (posted about it over on ROASTe), but haven't made it back yet. Our coffee scene is getting better by the day; case in point: Artifact is opening soon! Anyway, do keep us posted on which machine you decide to keep.

Wow!  Is Artifact going to open in the old location?

I read your ROASTe log post about it.

Im surprised our paths haven't crossed.

I think Im going to keep the Vario...I am waiting to hear from Whole Latte Love about getting the $100 refund.

Not the same location, as that's where Woodberry Kitchen is now, I think, but closeby: http://www.artifactcoffee.com/

See you there, in all likelihood!

I know that this is the first step down the path to a household full of grinders (aka my house), but I would prefer to keep the Vario and put the $100 away until I found a good quality used SJ.  If you single dose you are paying an awful lot for those ceramic Mahlkonig burrs, because you're not using the rest of what makes the Vario a really nice grinder.  It's my favorite consumer grinder because it does everything pretty well...but I think that SJs and Majors are better single dosing grinders - and I mean better in the cup, where it counts.

Perhaps I was slightly unclear when I said I single dose. I meant i single dose for pour over and other nom espreaao brew methods  I sold my Silvia and Mazzer. The SJ seems like overkill for my current needs.

If you don't fill the hopper up and just grind for one type of coffee I would say a regular Vario would probably work fine and not be a hassle.

Sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with WLL, when I got my Classic the price matched after I had already bought the machine.

Less water, more grounds.

I decided to keep the regular Vario....its been great, and I guess I dont know what Im missing with the W!

The WLL debacle was very annoying and I am writing a letter to WLL management describing my experience. Perhaps, they can use it as a customer relations case study.

WLL has very poor customer service in my opinion and I for one will never place a order with them ever again. not saying you will have problems with your grinder but if you try and order replacement parts from them you will normally have to wait 6 months to recieve your order and place several unpleasent phone calls.not being bias towards any dealer just from personel experience. They will tell you parts are in stock to get your order but after about 2 weeks of waiting without a shipping conformation being sent you will place the first call to complain and find out where your parts are. for me the excuse moast commonly used is stock input is wrong and it takes 6 mos, to get parts from Italy they claim because aparently evry manafactuer Takes 2 months vacation at the same time as you order your parts no matter what time of year it is !!!!!!!!

OK sorry for the rant,I like the reg vario the w is just a weighing base and can be purchased alone if you want it. I was going to order 1 but found it unnecssary. When I switch my beans I weigh my grounds with a scale and ajust my time from there.only takes a min

The Esatto attachment is not compatible with the Vario, so if you want the weight-based dosing feature, you have to buy the Vario-W. The original Vario's digital controls apparently conflicted with the Esatto's design, hence the separate grinder model.

One nice thing about the W is that they lettered the micro adjustments so that one can easily return to the same setting. I find counting the little lines on the Vario to be tedious.
