Just ordered one for $90 for the fun of it. Going to try for pour-over and maybe single dose espresso. If it's no good then it will just end up with the fam for auto drip, but it certainly looks capable based on Eric's tests.

I have mine for about a week now, grinding exclusively for Aeropress. So far it has been good; grind appears consistent, not noticing a lot of grounds retention, not too noisy. For $90, it seems like a solid all-around grinder and with the extra spacer, perhaps even an acceptable entry-level espresso grinder especially for those only considering the hobby and not wanting to plunge for $$$ equipment before knowing whether the hobby will stick.

Awesome review of an interesting grinder. Thanks for all of your work EricBNC.
I'm currently using a Rancilio Rocky, and am unhappy with it. I've had an MDF, Super Jolly and Nemox Lux, and was most happy with the Lux. The Lux's conical burrs trump these grinders, although its build quality is not the best. I'm wanting to sell my Rocky and pick up a Lux or something new.
Have you had any of these grinders, and if so, how does the Krups compare?

I have used grinders similar to the Lux and have experience with the Super Jolly too - the Krups is closer to the Lux in the cup for espresso with regard to the flavor profile.
I would prefer the Super Jolly for espresso if cost was not an issue but for other methods of prep the Krups might be better suited - I find the grounds to be consistent when this conical grinder is set for drip or press pot.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Now I'm torn. I feel like I should get one of these and give it a spin. I'm probably the only person in the world who finds the Lux to be a big step up from the SJ (not in terms of build quality though). The Lux is about double the price of the Krups...what to do?

If you are sold on the Nemox Lux, have you considered the Iberital Challenge? The burrs are identical (likely the same motor/burr assembly) but the Iberital is stepless for the same $200.
I have a La Pavoni PBC that uses the same worm drive conical burr assembly as the Lux and Iberital but the burrs are closer to the shape of the Krups (and Maestro) burrs - I like the way it grinds but I like the grind from the Krups Conical Burr too.

I didn't know about the Iberital Challenge. I'll probably be picking one up, thanks for the link! It looks like a Lux in a better case, with the worm-drive mod already applied--it's perfect.

Practically the burrset makes zero difference to the performance as an espresso grinder, since the adjustment mechanism remains the same.
As with a lot of "made in China" equipment, these grinders are designed to have a 2 - 3 year lifespan, and except for the burrs are more or less unrepairable. You need to balance the cost against the expected service life, but while they're working they are good domestic espresso grinders.
