Espresso: Crossland CC1 Grinder: Baratza Vario Drip: French press!

I've had some issues with my Preciso, but the overall consensus is that it's better than the Rocky at this point. The nice thing about buying it, instead of going for the Vario, is that if you want to upgrade to a weight based grinder later, there is the Esatto add-on to the Preciso.
As far as the machine, I chose the CC1 over the Silvia, despite the reputation Rancilio has. The CC1 has the PID, and an auto-filling boiler during steaming, and a quicker transition to/from steam. And SeattleCoffeeGear included a bottomless portafilter and $100 off the Preciso -- which almost pays for an Esatto. I do really like my Crossland.

Could you clarify? First you say the Preciso is not going to be adequate then you say there may not be a big difference between the Preciso and Vario. You finish with recommending the Preciso from the list. Just a little contradictory imo. Any reason why you don't seem very high on the preciso? It's certainly not a tank like a mazzer but as far as grinds go it's more than adequate and would do the job for the OP.
Yeah, that was somewhat confusing. In terms of actual grind quality, they're not that far apart, but the Vario seems to beat the Preciso in terms of usability. Maybe not so much if you buy the Esatto, but by the time you do that, you could have bought a Vario for the same price.

I've got a Preciso (and CC1) arriving tomorrow from SCG (my naked portafilter came two days ago, but I haven't found much use for it without the CC1!) I'm going to use the grinder for drip, press pot and espresso. I figured I wouldn't leave the beans in the hopper so I might as well weigh them prior to grinding (might put in an extra fraction of a gram to make up for lost grinds). Based on this, I didn't think the better timer on the Vario would be a big help. Does that make sense, or am I missing something?

Nope, it makes perfect sense. I fancied the idea of getting the Esatto for my Preciso but since I like to keep my beans stored in an airtight container I pre-weigh my beans instead of keeping the hopper filled.

The timer wouldn't help much for that, as it's generally used for espresso. Also, some people believe the Preciso is better than the Vario for course grinding due to its conical burrs, so don't worry about your purchase.

so the CC1 comes stock with a bottomless PF ? or was it separate purchase ?
I saw a post one or two days ago in a different thread here regarding that. The person who posted said his CC1 came with it. I don't know for sure if that was a special deal from one of the suppliers or whether it's stock (though I got the impression it was the latter). I do know that it was not purchased separately or as an accessory by the customer.
OK, I found it. It's in the Espresso Q&A Forum. topic is called: "Basic Newbie dosing and grinding question" poster was BarryR
