I just got my rocky grinder and have gone through almost 3/4 lb of espresso beans. How often do you clean it? The manual is less then helpful in this regard. Do I clean it between filling the hopper? I have been finding that my espresso has begun to taste burnt or grainy and I have been wondering if it is build up in the grinder that is contributing to this. Thoughts?

Grinder upkeep habits vary, but I prefer to do a "soft cleaning" between every bag/jar of beans. That is, I'll open 'er up and brush and vacuum the dust out. A full cleaning is more or less bimonthly, though I tend to just do it whenever I think it's about time. That's a run through of about 1/4 cup of quick-cook rice (I eyeball it), starting with a fine grind, then progressing to a coarser one. Then, I open it up again, pull out the upper burr, pick out the buildup with a toothpick, vacuum it up, sometimes I give the burrs a wipedown with a damp cloth, dry everything and reassemble. My personal motto though, is that if something tastes funky, smell the beans, smell the grinds, smell the grinder, and prepare to clean. You should soon find the source of the problem (for espresso, I might suggest smelling the portafilter, basket, group as well), like when my sister runs her skunky beans through my grinder and taint my next three espressi. Yech.

Just as a counter point, I tend to deep clean my grinders only about every 6 months or so. I tend to go through a fair amount of coffee (about 5 pounds a month) so constant use, for me, seems to keep things fairly clean. I might use a brush to clean out the entry chute of the grinder and around the burrs about once a month.
My work grinder, tends to get used much less so it gets cleaned about once a month.
If something tastes/smells funky, clean things up and take a good look at everything until you find the source.
