+1. This is frequently stated in recent threads on the Rocky. Consider the date of the data you're looking at if you think the Rocky is a good grinder choice.

It seems like there's always a sacrifice to be made in these choices.
Every decision in life involves compromises. Nothing is all pros without any cons. The "project management triangle" is just one example but this sort of thing applies to everything. You can't max one aspect of something without impacting the other aspects.

That's good to know; though I still believe that the Rocky is probably one of the cheapest significant upgrade from where I am, if I go espresso-only.

That goes without saying. In this specific case though I'd like to know if it's even possible to have a general usage grinder that is also at least competent for espresso. Is the Vario there? Is it the only one? Once I figure that out I'll know if I go espresso-only or general-purpose. Then I'll look at the price and decide if I upgrade sooner or later I guess.
I know though that with people in these forums buying $1000+ grinders almost routineley (or so it seems for an outsider), "being there" is quite subjective. In almost every hobby, once you pass the casual stage and go to the refinement stage, finding the right equipment becomes a journey for the mind, friends, significant other and bank account.
