Is this a Mazzer Jolly or Major? Black with 3 vents on the side, no other name. Going to look at one this evening. Looks like google images of major with 2 jolly type hoppers. Did the Jolly ever have the 3 vents?
I have never seen this grinder in action. What are some of the things I should check for before purchasing? Thanks. Owner said they had it for a while unused in the garage. They thought it is a rebadge.

The Jolly never had the vents, AFAIK. If it is a flat burr Mazzer and it has the vents, I believe it is a Major. If the Mazzer label is still on the side of the grinder, the first 2 digits of the serial number will be the year of manufacture. For example, the first 2 digits of the serial number of my Mazzer was "10", and it was manufactured in 2010.
You guys are crazy with these giant grinders for home use....
Haha! Congrats, welcome to the "crazy" club. I tend to agree with you that the Major looks a little ridiculous sitting on a home kitchen counter. With the "older style" Major such as yours, I think you can run it with any Mazzer hopper including the short Mini hopper, or even hopper-less, so it won't look quite as ridiculous. Fair warning though, a Major with such a small hopper looks kind of like a full-size body with a shrunken head.
I almost bought a Major, but decided to go for the Mahlkonig K30 instead - the K30 is like the short stubby screwdriver of the titan level grinders.
