Anyone , know of grinders that can do a pound in one grind? What price range am i  looking at?  My grinder now has an 18 cup grind, but it still does a pound in like 4-5 grinds....and when i'm grinding 3lbs at a time, i don't want that stress on my machine.  My cost was around $40 so if it does break, there's no real love lost.  Trying to stay below the 500 mark.

Wondering why you need to grind so much at once.

What comes to mind if you need to grind for drip is something like a used commercial bunn g series grinder or something similar.  I see them all the time on craigslist.

I don't get it.  Do you consume 3lbs of coffee at once?

been roasting 4-5 lbs a week.  My grinder's good, but not that good. JUst looking for a somewhat commercial product that will last the test, and wondering what it'll cost me.  Also looking into a behmor 1600. Read the reviews and it still scares me. I DOn't know if i want to drop that kinda change into a machine i'm afraid to use. Also don't know if it can handle 5+lbs a week or for how long. Thinking about getting a second sr500 to carry me over.  But my sights are on the grinder...

You're not grinding your coffee per shot/pot? Do you run a cafe?

someday...but for now, i buy green beans, roast them and sell them to people by the pound.  Friends and family mostly.  But my quest is to bring great coffee to the masses, one bean at a time.

OK, I see.

I would recommend a shop grinder as long as you aren't trying to do pre-ground espresso in bags (heck even it you are, what is it really going to matter with pre-ground espresso?).  Buying used I think you could pull it off for $500 including the cost of new burrs.  I find that used one in every imaginable condition are all over the place on CL, which should be fine as long as you are very picky about the condition (which you can be here in LA seeing that they are a dime a dozen).  I have only ever owned Mahlkoenig shop grinders, so I don't know much about Bunns and Grindmasters.  I had a Guatamala, now I have a Kenia, and both are fine for my purposes and I would think yours.  I've used a Ditting too, and it was very nice, but even used they are costly.

I have a Behmor, but I have no idea if it could handle roasting a pound a day.  I find that things get very smokey very fast if I don't keep it super clean and follow the specified maintenance procedures.

Just to put a little finer point on the subject, you need to be looking at something like this from one of the major makers such as Bunn, Grindmaster, Curtis etc. Like Russel said, they are fairly common used and don't cost much. For bulk grinding, this is what they are made for.

The Bunn G series will grind 2lbs a minute but none of the settings will be suitable for espresso. These are strictly brew grinders no matter what it says on the dial. Be aware that new burrs run $200 a set so you are better off paying a little more for a lightly used specimen with good usable burrs.
