I bought a Peugeot grinder and the components and construction are well above any standard. That said, however, When cranking the handle around, the revolving conical burr surface comes in contact with the stationary burr (regardless of fine of course setting). I wondering if this is normal, or should these two surfaces be separated at distance at all times?
Additional info; when cranking, it turns easily - there is no hard friction.

No, it's not normal...well, it is normal, but not desirable. The burrs are rocking while you use it, which is one of the reasons Orphan Espresso decided to make the Lido (to make a grinder without all the flaws the other hand grinders have). So, yes, the burrs should be separated at all times...but alas, you bought a Peugeot, so they won't. You might want to rethink your first sentence, particularly the part about construction well above any standard?

((((Yeah, it really is. take a look at the thread on home-barista (Click Here (www.home-barista.com)) where Doug and Barb (OE owners) discuss the entire development of Lido, as it unfolds (it's a really long thread with potential buyers interjecting their comments and questions).
Then take a look at Dave Stephens' review of the Lido, shortly after it was released...(Click Here (www.home-barista.com))
there's also this hand grinder showdown, first place I ever heard about the super expensive Australian "Rosco" (Click Here (www.home-barista.com))
