Espresso: My Pressi Twist
Posted Tue Dec 18, 2012, 11:49am Subject: Preciso setting for use with MyPressi Twist
Can someone please identify for me the grinder settings on the newest Preciso that they specifically use with the MyPressi standard basket? (The My Pressi comes with a second non standard basket for use with preground coffees, but I would like to get consistent shots with the standard basket if at all possible.) I know I can experiment until I am blue in the face and most likely can come up with a suitable grind based on fresh beans, etc., but it would be helpful to me to hear from others the specific dial in that they use with the Twist. I believe the Twist folks are of the opinion that the Preciso will not grind fine enough for the Pressi, but I have definitely choked it on occasion, so that may be outdated information. Thanks

Precisos can have different "Calibrations". One person's "2A" is another person's "14F". Comparing grinder settings between machines is a fruitless effort.
Get a pound of cheap beans, grind until you get close with the twist. Then take a pound of good beans and fine tune, (use cheapo beans to get close...should get you within a macro setting or so of where you want to be).

A Preciso will definitely grind fine enough for a Twist, unless there's something odd about them that means they brew way above 15 bar. It can easily stall any pump driven machine if it's in reasonable calibration. Mine (recently refitted with the updated gearbox) runs around 8-9 depending on bean with my Bezzera BZ07 machine at around 9 bar for a good shot, and stalls it at around 7. I'll leave off the micro adjust settings as they vary as beans age and between blends.
You should hear first contact between the burrs somewhere between 5 and 15. Start there and go finer in whole macro steps (or double steps) until you choke the Twist, then back off towards the right setting.
