Hey guys, I'm home on break, and looking around the house at a compilation of my old hobbies, I'm realizing there's at least a good ~$500 resale value of some old guitars and RC aircraft I had left over that won't make it on a plane to college.
If I sold it, the money would most certainly go towards a grinder upgrade. Right now I have a Lelit PL53 paired with a silvia, and that money puts the Mazzer Mini or-if I can find one- a used commercial grinder in sight.
Thing is, these are hobbies I still have interest in and would like to continue after school... Frankly, I'm happy with the Lelit.
So, I guess I'm asking you guys to convince me to shed some of this old stuff in pursuit of better coffee :D Really, how much of a difference will a grinder like this make?

I've never used a Lelit, but I can attest that going from a Rocky to a Macap M4 (not all that different from what you're proposing) was a huge improvement in the cup.

I've had great experiences with the Vario and the Pharos. Either one would be excellent, and you'd have to spend much more to get comparable performance.

With regards to the past hobbies, I would vote to hang on to some stuff. Interests change and it can be a lot of fun getting back into things as you get older. That's just my opinion and one of the reasons why I sold off a chunk of coffee stuff. Granted, I had A LOT of brewers and only drink/make a cup or two a day, so it just didn't make sense. But, definitely keep an eye on old hobbies - you never know when your interest will come around to that old guitar!
As far as a grinder, if the grinder makes good coffee for you are you looking to upgrade to make it taste better or just for the excitement of a new machine? I love that excitement!
I've heard nothing but good about the Pharos, both with mods and fresh from OE. I personally like keeping the focus on what's in the cup, but ultimately it's up to you and you'll make the right choice!

Thanks for the posts, guys. I'm going to try and sell off a bit of different things, and between that and Christmas money I may be able to snag a used Mazzer if I'm lucky, otherwise I'll go the Pharos route. I've liked the concept and reviews of the Pharos for some time anyway!

I would not hesitate to sell RC equipment if I could, whether you get the grinder or not. The electronics in that field change quickly. Good equipment will still work fine, but the resale value goes down quickly. It is easy to get back into that field and new prices come down quickly except very top line. I have a little too much experience with good, old RC stuff :)
