Thanks to the awesome distributors at Orphan Espresso, Hario, Kyocera and user "someguy" of CoffeeGeek I was able to make my Kyocera CM-50 a full range stepless hand grinder. The other great thing is all of the parts are metal and will most likely out last the grinder itself at which time they can be simply swapped out. :)

I second, definitely a recommended mod for this grinder. I found that using a Nylok nut works just as well as using two standard nuts. The Nylok nut locks in by itself, and won't move unless you move it with a wrench. Attached is a pic of my solution for the burr stabilization, done before they came out with the lower bearing assembly.

Nice! How are you making adjustments? I mean with just the Nylock nut? Also I found that it's very hard to dial the grind back in. How are you keeping track of each setting?
Also can you give me more info on how to install your mod along with the finished product?

Nevermind. I was able to find a recent post you posted showing what I need. I will Try the Nylok. Just trying to think of a good way to keep track of each grind setting.

I keep track of my grind setting by measuring the distance from the top of the nylok nut to the top of the shaft (with handle removed) with a caliper. When I reassemble the grinder, I set the nut back to the same distance. Even then, I need to tweak the setting just a bit to dial it back in. Usually only takes a shot or two.
I have a full size Craftsman that I've had forever, just use that one. To adjust the grind, I just hold the handle while turning the adjustment nut with an open end wrench. I tweak it 1/8 turn (or less) clockwise for finer, counter clockwise for coarser.
